Filling Map Gaps

The most vulnerable parts of the world are unmapped. Literally. Missing Maps is an open, collaborative project to help fill those gaps. More complete maps help humanitarian organizations reach those in need. AI and analytics help fill gaps faster. Iā€™m proud the TIBCO team stepped up to lend a hand.

Founded by the Doctors Without Borders, the American Red Cross, and the British Red Cross, Missing Maps has added over 1 million kilometers of roads and almost 44 million buildings to publicly accessible maps. This season, TIBCO and Microsoft helped fill 5,930 map gaps in Indonesia. As Shannon Peifer reminds us, Indonesia is plagued by poverty and battered by natural disasters.

More map gaps need to be filled. There are three ways you can help: join in as an individual, organize a mapathon, or donate money.

Analytics and open data projects like Missing Maps help make the world a better place!
